Blurb Book Idea

Book 1- Some page layouts are interesting. A large format on one page and multiple similar images on the other page.
Book 2- I like the black background of pages. I also like how objects are used to portray certain emotions.
Book 3 - The subject of this book is very similar to the idea i want for my book, a portrait of a town.
Book 4 - The images in this book are similar to what I want to shoot in my book, Images of building decayed or restored.
Book 5- I like the macro style images of decayed building and wood. This is something I plan on shooting in my project.

THEME: A portrait of a small dilapidated town. Oswego, NY.

ACCESS TO SUBJECT: Very easy. I don't have to worry about models, and I live here.

SEQUENCING: A mixture of environmental portraits, photos of buildings, and people and things that live in the area will be mixed through out. The images will start during the daytime in the town, and end at night. I am also thinking about shooting from one side of town to the other, because i feel there is a large difference between East and West Oswego.

TEXT: While I am not positive, I have been looking through books to find poetry or music that discusses small towns. I am thinking of placing these poems line by line underneath the imagery. Depending on how strong the poem or songs convey the theme will depend if I use them or not.

PAGES: I plan on doing the 41 - 80 page range. Most likely around 60 images.

AUDIENCE: I plan on my imagery being strong enough to attract the attention of any audience, young or old, small town residents to city lovers.

Blog Entry Numero Tres

ZEKE BERMAN

MARTINI, 1984, 16x20

SUBJECT MATTER: A table, lamp post, black sheets, and a ball.

FORM: 1. Positive/Negative Space
2. Relation of Elements within the Frame.
3. Color
4. Point of View
5. Contrast

The image is a portrait of a martini glass. Though the photographer does not actually use a martini glass, he uses form to create one.

In Berman's photo, black and white color is used to emphasize the contrast of lights and darks, such as the black cloth, and the wood. The black cloth creates negative space, and the table becomes positive space. The cloth is folded in a way that creates the shape of the top of a martini glass. The wooden lamp post relates to the other elements because it is also wood. It also is part of the positive space creating the base of the martini glass. Another element in the photo is the ball, which creates the olive that is found in a martini. Finally, the point of view is very important, if it were shot at another angle, the form maybe be off enough to not resemble a martini glass. While there is no deep meaning to the photograph, the use of inordinate objects creates a very interesting subject.

Blog Post Numero Dos

Nels Cline
by photographer: Zoran Orlic

Subject: Nels Cline of Wilco playing guitar.

Form:
i. Color
ii. Positive/Negative Space
iii. Light and Value
iv. Motion (or lack there of)
v. Relation to elements within the frame.

This photograph shows the relationship between a musician and his instrument.

Zoran Orlic uses the forms I have defined to show the unity between a musician and his instrument. Color helps create an obvious subject matter of the musician. I believe the negative space and light and value represents the nothingness occurring in the mind of the musician. Motion, though it is not occurring, viewers know that to play a guitar your hands have to move, the photograph stops that motion.

Two People Waiting for Wave

Mass
Positive/Negative Space
Point of View
Depth of Field
Distance of Camera to Subject Matter

The image describes a large portion of surfing, which is waiting for the wave.

The photo expresses the feeling surfers get while anticipating a wave. The image is black and white creating a contrast between the water and air. The negative along with the large depth of field space helps to emphasize the size of the ocean which also helps to give the view it a very "deep unknown" feel. The main subject matter in the image is both the water and surfers. The camera actually sits in the water, but at a far distance from the image. All of these combine help show a calm ocean leading to the surfers who are out of focus. The image gives off a very meditative feeling quite similar to that of which a surfer feels while waiting for a wave, or riding a wave. They become "one" with the ocean.
